Miralax Powder

GENERIC NAME: POLYETHYLENE (pol-ee-ETH-i-leen) GLYCOL (GLYE-col)

COMMON USES: This medicine is an osmotic agent used to treat constipation.

HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure this dose. Dissolve each dose of this medicine in 8 ounces (240ml) of water, juice, sodas, coffee, or tea. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking 1 dose daily, take the missed dose if you remember the same day. Skip the missed dose if you do not remember until the next day. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.

CAUTIONS: IT MAY TAKE 2 TO 4 DAYS for this medicine to work. Do not use this medicine for more than 2 weeks unless prescribed by your doctor. USING THIS MEDICINE for a long time, in large amounts may result in electrolyte imbalances and dependence on laxatives. DO NOT TAKE this medicine with other laxatives or stool softeners, unless directed by your doctor. DO NOT USE this medicine if you experience abdominal pain or bloating, nausea, or vomiting, except under the direction of your doctor. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include nausea, cramping, stomach fullness, diarrhea, or gas. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience a rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you currently have a bowel obstruction. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include diarrhea.
