GENERIC NAME: MICONAZOLE (mi-KON-a-zole)
COMMON USES: This medicine is an antifungal agent used to treat vaginal yeast infections.
HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Wash your hands immediately after using this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue using this medicine for the full course of treatment. Do not miss any doses.
CAUTIONS: IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE within a few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. IF YOUR INFECTION CLEARS UP and occurs again in a few weeks, see your doctor. IF YOU HAVE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE DURING TREATMENT, you may increase the risk of reinfection. THIS MEDICINE MAY ALSO DECREASE THE EFFECTIVENESS of condoms and diaphragms. CONTINUE USING THIS MEDICINE even during your menstrual period. USE A SANITARY PAD rather than a tampon to prevent staining of clothing. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include burning or itching in or around the vagina not present before using this medicine. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking astemizole or terfenadine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anticoagulants. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
