Gris-Peg Tablets

GENERIC NAME: GRISEOFULVIN (gri-see-oh-FUL-vin)

COMMON USES: This medicine is an antifungal agent used to treat certain fungal infections (eg, ringworm) of the skin, hair, and nails. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. THIS MEDICINE MAY BE SWALLOWED WHOLE or crushed and mixed with 1 tablespoonful of applesauce. If you take this medicine with applesauce, crush the medicine and sprinkle it onto 1 tablespoonful of applesauce and swallow the mixture right away without chewing. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking this medicine for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including complete blood cell counts, liver function, and kidney function, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking this medicine. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun or sunlamps until you know how you react to this medicine. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. IT IS IMPORTANT to practice good hygiene during and after use to prevent reinfection. FOR WOMEN: TAKING THIS MEDICINE while you are taking hormonal birth control (eg, birth control pills) may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control (eg, condoms). DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. Avoid becoming pregnant while you are taking it. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT contact your doctor immediately. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking medicine include headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, vomiting, or stomach upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience butterfly-shaped rash on the face; confusion; fever, chills, or sore throat; flu-like symptoms (eg, headache, joint pain); mental or mood changes; numbness, burning, or tingling of the hands or feet; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe or persistent stomach pain, dark urine, pale stools); trouble breathing or sleeping; or white patches in the mouth. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), cabazitaxel, cyclosporine, ulipristal, or anticoagulants (eg, warfarin). DO NOT START OR STOP ANY MEDICINE without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including liver problems, lupus, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to a penicillin antibiotic (eg, amoxicillin). USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have liver failure, the blood disease porphyria, or if you are pregnant. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
