Fluconazole Tablets

GENERIC NAME: FLUCONAZOLE (floo-KOE-na-zole)

COMMON USES: This medicine is an azole antifungal used to treat or prevent certain yeast or fungal infections. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking ergot alkaloids (e.g., ergotamine), astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, clopidogrel, erythromycin, or pimozide. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking aldosterone blockers (e.g., eplerenone), antiarrhythmics (e.g., amiodarone, solatol), anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), arsenic, benzodiazepines (e.g., alprazolam, midazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, colchicines, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, domperidone, everolimus, fentanyl, haloperidol, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins" (e.g., simvastatin), hormonal contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills), hydantoins (e.g., phenytoin), lurasidone, macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin), microlide immunosuppressants (e.g., tacrolimus), methadone, muscarinic antagonists (e.g., solifenacin, tolterodine), proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) (e.g., omeprazole), quinolones (e.g., levofloxacin), rifamycins (e.g.,. rifabutin, rifampin), ramelteon, ranolazine, serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonists (e.g., eletriptan), sulfonylureas (e.g., glipizide, glyburide, tolbutamine), theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), or vasopressin antagonists (e.g., tolvaptan). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform you doctor or any other medical conditions, including a history of liver problems, kidney problems, heart problems (e.g., irregular heartbeat, structural heart problems), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to other azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE: Follow the direction doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach o TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. TAKE THIS MEDICINE at least 2 hours before proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) (e.g., omeprazole). STORE THIS MEDICINE below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. Take this medicine at the same time each day to receive the most benefit from it. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking this medicine for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function and kidney function, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. This medicine may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. THIS MEDICINE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE RARE CASES OF SERIOUS LIVER DAMAGE, including death, mainly in patients with serious medical conditions. Liver damage caused by this medicine has not been attributed to total daily dose length of therapy, or sex or age of the patient. This type of liver damage may or may not be reversible when this medicine is stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you experience dark urine, loss of appetite, pale stools, severe stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. THIS MEDICINE ONLY WORKS AGAINST FUNGI; it does not treat viral infections (e.g., the common cold) or bacterial infections. BE SURE TO USE THIS MEDICINE FOR THE FULL COURSE OF TREATMENT. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The fungus could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future. LONG-TERM OR REPEATED USE of this medicine may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING THIS MEDICINE IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU ARE USING HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL (e.g., BIRTH CONTROL PILLS), this medicine may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control (e.g., condoms) while you are taking this medicine. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include headache, mild stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, taste changes, or dizziness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience dark urine; fever; irregular heartbeat; loss of appetite; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting; sore throat; swelling of your hands; unusual or severe stomach pain; unusual tiredness; or yellowing of the eyes or skin. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. OVERDOSE: IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include behavior changes, hallucinations, seizures, or slowed breathing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed.
