DDAVP Tablets

GENERIC NAME: DESMOPRESSIN (DES-moe-PRES-in)

COMMON USES: This medicine is an antidiuretic hormone used to treat the symptoms of diabetes insipidus, which include increased thirst and urination. It may also be used to treat bedwetting and other conditions as determined by your doctor.

HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

CAUTIONS: DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT USE MORE OF THIS MEDICINE or use it for longer than recommended because serious side effects may occur. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including urine volume or blood electrolytes may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. Make sure that you are drinking the correct amount of fluid while taking this medicine. SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS (such as low blood sodium levels) may occur if too much liquid is taken in while on this medicine, especially in children or the elderly. Check with your doctor if you experience infection, fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Tell your doctor if you will be exposed to very hot weather, will be physically active, or will be increasing your water intake for any reason. The risk of low blood sodium levels may be increased. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: NO COMMON SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED with the proper use of this medicine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience headache; nausea and vomiting; unusual tiredness, sluggishness, or restlessness; loss of appetite; or unusual weight gain. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience confusion; fainting; mental or mood changes (such as agitation or irritability); muscle weakness, spasm, or cramps; personality changes; seizures; or swelling. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE: Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking carbamazepine, chlorpromazine, lamotrigine, narcotic analgesics (such as codeine), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (such as ibuprofen), oxybutynin, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (such as fluoxetine), or tricyclic antidepressants (such as imipramine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including cystic fibrosis, dehydration, fever, severe infection, vomiting or diarrhea, recent surgery in the head area, severe drowsiness, swelling or fluid retention, abnormal blood electrolyte levels, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR if you have a history of kidney problems, heart problems (such as heart blood vessel disease), or high blood pressure. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you will be exposed to extremely hot weather, if you are physically active, or if you drink a lot of water. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have moderate to severe kidney problems, low blood sodium levels, or a history of low blood sodium levels. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include confusion, persistent headache, sudden weight gain, trouble urinating, and unusual drowsiness.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
